Karlene Barnett
LPCA
Licensed Professional Counselor Associate

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A) and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) with experience providing individual and group psychotherapy to adolescents and adults in both inpatient and outpatient settings. I have also worked closely with court services to assess clients for substance use disorders and offer informed treatment recommendations.

My passion lies in supporting adolescents and adults navigating challenges such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), grief, trauma, and substance abuse. I also provide couples counseling to help partners build healthier, more connected relationships. I hold a Master's degree in Clinical Counseling from the University of Bridgeport.

I am trained in and actively apply a range of therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), helping clients challenge irrational thoughts and develop healthier thinking patterns; Narrative Therapy, which encourages the reshaping of personal stories; and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), which fosters emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. I also integrate Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Reality Therapy, and Play Therapy techniques as appropriate to each client's needs.

My approach is supportive and collaborative, creating a safe space where clients can pursue meaningful growth and healing. I believe in caring for the whole person and promoting purposeful living regardless of background or belief system. For clients who desire to incorporate faith into their healing journey, I offer counseling from a Christian perspective, grounded in Biblical principles. I also hold a Doctorate in Theology and serve as a Senior Pastor for a local ministry.

Frustrated by a medical system that often addressed symptoms rather than the root causes of illness, I am committed to providing holistic, patient-centered care that integrates both conventional and alternative therapies. Focusing on the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—to support optimal health, well-being and dedicated to educating patients on lifestyle modifications, self-management strategies, and sustainable wellness practices.
